Cage, Brosnan see Polanski's 'Ghost'
Roman Polanski has set Nicolas Cage, Tilda Swinton and Pierce Brosnan for his next film, "The Ghost," an adaptation of the Robert Harris political thriller. Production begins in September in Europe. Cage will play a ghostwriter hired abruptly to finish the memoirs of an ex-British prime minister after the first scribe turned up dead. The ghostwriter's research leads him to uncover skeletons in the pol's closet that put the writer's life in danger. Swinton will play the wife of the former prime minister (Brosnan). Her marriage is crumbling, and she falls for the writer. Robert Benmussa and Alain Sarde are producing. Polanski and Harris teamed to write the script. Summit is selling worldwide rights; domestic distribution hasn't yet been determined.

obsessive without apology.
i always knew he was my personal fave (aside from patrick, who she sent out on the first night) but i never knew if i would be able to see him with D. i think i can, though. sadly, i still dont think she'll choose him in the end. although, he did kiss her finally.
oh, man....a snowboarder. yowza- i'm in love.
ps- im having trouble seeing her with any of the final guys. with graham (her obvious fave) gone, it comes down to three pretty diff guys. jeremy seems too serious, jason seems too cheesy/not "manly" enough for her taste (gay? wouldnt surprise me) and jesse (although i love that she's given it a chance) might just be a little too unconventional. either way....can't wait to find out!

In response to your article "On Earth Day, eat, greet but no meat" (4/23/08), it was wonderful to see that so many students and faculty members were actively promoting a vegan lifestyle this Earth Day. As a recent study at the University of Chicago concluded, going vegan is better for the environment than switching to a hybrid car due to the immense amount of wasted resources and energy needed to produce a single pound of meat.
Across the board, animal agriculture squanders the limited resources we have by funneling them through animals raised for meat and other animal products. For example, we currently feed more than 70 percent of the grains raised in this country to animals raised for food rather than eating the grains directly.
Similarly, nearly half of the water and 80 percent of agricultural land consumed in this country is used for livestock when it could be used to grow food directly for human consumption. This wasteful use of our resources has a devastating effect on our local environments as well.
Currently, farmed animals produce about 130 times as much excrement as the entire U.S. population, much of which finds its way into our local waterways.
Thankfully, it's never been easier to find delicious and cruelty-free meals on the go (especially in New York City). With local hot spots like Red Bamboo and Vegetarians Paradise #2 only blocks from campus and the dining halls consistently serving up tasty vegan meals, there's never been a better time to cut cruelty out of our diet for good.

aw, brother.
it's hard for me to seperate my true feelings about the movie from my love of the show and the connection i have with it to my girls back home but i'll let this keen netflix reviewer do the talking for me:
"I was so excited about this film; it felt like the night before Christmas as I entered the theater. Little did I know, the movie version would fall flat on so many levels. First of all, what I loved about SATC, is that they broke all the norms. Michael Patrick King created four women we could identify with, who were unique, unabashedly honest, and had a life-long connection as friends. Most viewers felt they had a little bit of all the girls mixed into their personalities. The film completely lost this spirit as it got caught up in the glitz, glam, and tacky predictability. As we were faced with Carrie's drama, the storylines of the other girls were sidelined completely. The women became caricatures of themselves; let's have prime and proper Charlotte crap her pants, have loveable Steve cheat on Miss Independent Miranda, and have Samantha get a "pooch" while gorging herself to keep from cheating on Smith Jared? The lesson Carrie learns about "not losing focus of the one you love as you plan an outrageously expensive wedding" is ironically lost in the hoopla of the fashionistas themselves. The women come off as superficial, materialistic, shrieking shells of the clever women we came to love over the six seasons. It is as if the film projects a moral that it doesn't even take seriously itself. When SATC originated, many critics felt that the women were just "gay men" in character who slept around and talked about it the next morning over coffee. As the season progressed, viewers saw the four women grow and shed any of this speculation. Yet in the film, I felt as if we were back at square one. The series did not translate to the big screen at all; it was all tied up in a big Tiffany bow that screamed sequel. When the lights came up, Fergie's annoying theme song "Labels or Love" came on and I couldn't help but wonder, why the writers chose to lose the love in favor of the labels."

but i really am sad "moonlight" was cancelled. it wasnt genius but it was entertaining and the only good weekend show (it aired friday nights) besides "brothers & sisters."
sigh.
