for you.

forever. i could not have said it better myself.

Litany in Which Certain Things Are Crossed Out
BY RICHARD SIKEN

Every morning the maple leaves.
Every morning another chapter where the hero shifts
from one foot to the other. Every morning the same big
and little words all spelling out desire, all spelling out
You will be alone always and then you will die.
So maybe I wanted to give you something more than a catalog
of non-definitive acts,
something other than the desperation.
Dear So-and-So, I'm sorry I couldn't come to your party.
Dear So-and-So, I'm sorry I came to your party
and seduced you
and left you bruised and ruined, you poor sad thing.
Your want a better story. Who wouldn't?
A forest, then. Beautiful trees. And a lady singing.
Love on the water, love underwater, love, love and so on.
What a sweet lady. Sing lady, sing! Of course, she wakes the dragon.
Love always wakes the dragon and suddenly
flames everywhere.
I can tell already you think I'm the dragon,
that would be so like me, but I'm not. I'm not the dragon.
I'm not the princess either.
Who am I? I'm just a writer. I write things down.
I walk through your dreams and invent the future. Sure,
I sink the boat of love, but that comes later. And yes, I swallow
glass, but that comes later.
And the part where I push you
flush against the wall and every part of your body rubs against the bricks,
shut up
I'm getting to it.
For a while I thought I was the dragon.
I guess I can tell you that now. And, for a while, I thought I was
the princess,
cotton candy pink, sitting there in my room, in the tower of the castle,
young and beautiful and in love and waiting for you with
confidence
but the princess looks into her mirror and only sees the princess,
while I'm out here, slogging through the mud, breathing fire,
and getting stabbed to death.
Okay, so I'm the dragon. Bid deal.
You still get to be the hero.
You get the magic gloves! A fish that talks! You get eyes like flashlights!
What more do you want?
I make you pancakes, I take you hunting, I talk to you as if you're
really there.
Are you there, sweetheart? Do you know me? Is this microphone live?
Let me do it right for once,
for the record, let me make a thing of cream and stars that becomes,
you know the story, simply heaven.
Inside your head you hear a phone ringing
and when you open your eyes
only a clearing with deer in it. Hello deer.
Inside your head the sound of glass,
a car crash sound as the trucks roll over and explode in slow motion.
Hello darling, sorry about that.
Sorry about the bony elbows, sorry we
lived here, sorry about the scene at the bottom of the stairwell
and how I ruined everything by saying it out loud.
Especially that, but I should have known.
You see, I take the parts that I remember and stitch them back together
to make a creature that will do what I say
or love me back.
I'm not really sure why I do it, but in this version you are not
feeding yourself to a bad man
against a black sky prickled with small lights.
I take it back.
The wooden halls likes caskets. These terms from the lower depths.
I take them back.
Here is the repeated image of the lover destroyed.
Crossed out.
Clumsy hands in a dark room. Crossed out. There is something
underneath the floorboards.
Crossed out. And here is the tabernacle
reconstructed.
Here is the part where everyone was happy all the time and we were all
forgiven,
even though we didn't deserve it.
Inside your head you hear
a phone ringing, and when you open your eyes you're washing up
in a stranger's bathroom,
standing by the window in a yellow towel, only twenty minutes away
from the dirtiest thing you know.
All the rooms of the castle except this one, says someone, and suddenly
darkness,
suddenly only darkness.
In the living room, in the broken yard,
in the back of the car as the lights go by. In the airport
bathroom's gurgle and flush, bathed in a pharmacy of
unnatural light,
my hands looking weird, my face weird, my feet too far away.
And the the airplane, the window seat over the wing with a view
of the wing and a little foil bag of peanuts.
I arrived in the city and you met me at the station,
smiling in a way
that made me frightened. Down the alley, around the arcade,
up the stairs of the building
to the little room with the broken faucets, your drawings, all your things,
I looked out the window and said
This doesn't look that much different from home,
because it didn't,
but then I noticed the black sky and all those lights.
We walked through the house to the elevated train.
All these buildings, all that glass and the shiny beautiful
mechanical wind.
We were inside the train car when I started to cry. You were crying too,
smiling and crying in a way that made me
even more hysterical. You said I could have anything I wanted, but I
just couldn't say it out loud.
Actually, you said Love, for you,
is larger than the usual romantic love. It's like a religion. It's
terrifying. No one
will ever want to sleep with you.
Okay, if you're so great, you do it—
here's the pencil, make it work . . .
If the window is on your right, you are in your own bed. If the window
is over your heart, and it is painted shut, then we are breathing
river water.
Build me a city and call it Jerusalem. Build me another and call it
Jerusalem.
We have come back from Jerusalem where we found not
what we sought, so do it over, give me another version,
a different room, another hallway, the kitchen painted over
and over,
another bowl of soup.
The entire history of human desire takes about seventy minutes to tell.
Unfortunately, we don't have that kind of time.
Forget the dragon,
leave the gun on the table, this has nothing to do with happiness.
Let's jump ahead to the moment of epiphany,
in gold light, as the camera pans to where
the action is,
lakeside and backlit, and it all falls into frame, close enough to see
the blue rings of my eyes as I say
something ugly.
I never liked that ending either. More love streaming out the wrong way,
and I don't want to be the kind that says the wrong way.
But it doesn't work, these erasures, this constant refolding of the pleats.
There were some nice parts, sure,
all lemondrop and mellonball, laughing in silk pajamas
and the grains of sugar
on the toast, love love or whatever, take a number. I'm sorry
it's such a lousy story.
Dear Forgiveness, you know that recently
we have had our difficulties and there are many things
I want to ask you.
I tried that one time, high school, second lunch, and then again,
years later, in the chlorinated pool.
I am still talking to you about help. I still do not have
these luxuries.
I have told you where I'm coming from, so put it together.
We clutch our bellies and roll on the floor . . .
When I say this, it should mean laughter,
not poison.
I want more applesauce. I want more seats reserved for heroes.
Dear Forgiveness, I saved a plate for you.
Quit milling around the yard and come inside.

pushing daisies is back.

thanks the heavens. i could barely breathe without it.

yes.

the last two lines of this poem kill my soul. THIS is what i want, friends.

To The Dead, by Frank Bidart

What I hope (when I hope) is that we'll
see each other again,--

. . . and again reach the VEIN

in which we loved each other . .
It existed. It existed.

There is a NIGHT within the NIGHT,--

. . . for, like the detectives (the Ritz Brothers)
in The Gorilla,

once we'd been battered by the gorilla

we searched the walls, the intricately carved
impenetrable paneling

for a button, lever, latch

that unlocks a secret door that
reveals at last the secret chambers,

CORRIDORS within WALLS,

(the disenthralling, necessary, dreamed structure
beneath the structure we see,)

that is the HOUSE within the HOUSE . . .

There is a NIGHT within the NIGHT,--

. . . there were (for example) months when I seemed only
to displease, frustrate,

disappoint you--; then, something triggered

a drunk lasting for days, and as you
slowly and shakily sobered up,

sick, throbbing with remorse and self-loathing,

insight like ashes: clung
to; useless; hated . . .

This was the viewing of the power of the waters

while the waters were asleep:--
secrets, histories of loves, betrayals, double-binds

not fit (you thought) for the light of day . . .

There is a NIGHT within the NIGHT,--

. . . for, there at times at night, still we
inhabit the secret place together . . .

Is this wisdom, or self-pity?--

The love I've known is the love of
two people staring

not at each other, but in the same direction.

Green Mountain Idyll

Hayden Carruth

Honey I'd split your kindling

clean & bright

& fine

if you was mine

baby baby

I'd taken to you like my silky hen

my bluetick bitch my sooey sow

my chipmunk my finchbird

& my woodmouse

if you was living at my house

I'd mulch your strawberries & cultivate

your potato patch

all summer long

& then in winter

come thirty below and the steel-busting weather

I'd tune your distributor & adjust

your carburetor

if me & you was together

be it sunshine be it gloom

summer or the mean mud season

honey I'd kiss you

every morningtime

& evenings I'd hurry

to get shut of the barn chores early

& then in the dark of the night

I'd stand at the top of the stairs & hold the light

for you for you

if you'd sleep in my room

& when old crazy come down the mountain after you

with his big white pecker in his hand

you would only holler

& from the sugar house

the mow the stable

or wherever I'm at

I'd come god I'd come running to you

like a turpentined cat

only in our bed

honey

no hurting

but like as if it was

git- music

or new-baked bread

I'd fuck so easy

sweet-talking & full of love

if you was just my daisy

& my dove

lying to yourself.

is pointless. i know this. im known for being esp good about being totally honest with myself and admitting everything i feel, despite the outcomes. that part is def out of the way. so when do i start admitting the rest? for the first time in...a long time? forever?...i have a secret. and that is so, so weird.

OK, its not totally a secret because, like, 2 people know about it. but not anyone that really "matters." yeah, not going to explain that. anyways. the question is, if i know i cant control my own emotions, why am i trying? i usually let myself get hurt fast to get it out of the way. the situation is different. and so, totally hopeless. i think. i change my mind about that daily so stay tuned.

since when did i even start believing this was possible!? ugh, fuck you. and fuck you to every person i've ever liked that didnt like me back (uh, thats all of you). if there's anything i know for sure, its that any of you would have been lucky to have me. at least i dont have a complex.

yeah, take that at its word friends. sorry for the vagueness, still sorting this one out.

wicked.

is coming to the fox in atlanta. i admit its a little silly to want to go see a play i've seen on broadway 3-4 times already. in atlanta, no less. (ps- i love how people here think its the "real" wicked...dont they know they cant just shut down the NY production while the cast tours? its a totally different group, people!) anyways. i want to drag some friends to see it. it really is my fave.

meanwhile, am avoiding planning my birthday like the plague.

fuck tuesday.

it only tuesday!?

WASHINGTON, DC—After running a thousand errands, working hours of overtime, and being stuck in seemingly endless gridlock traffic commuting to and from their jobs, millions of Americans were disheartened to learn that it was, in fact, only Tuesday.

"Tuesday?" San Diego resident Doris Wagner said. "How in the hell is it still Tuesday?"

Already the week is unbearable for these New Yorkers awaiting a subway train, and it's only fucking Tuesday.

Tuesday's arrival stunned a nation still recovering from the nightmarish slog that was Monday, leaving some to wonder if the week was ever going to end, and others to ask what was taking Saturday so goddamn long.

"Ugh," said Wagner, echoing a national sense of frustration over it not even being Wednesday at the very least.

According to suddenly depressed sources, the feeling that this week may in fact last forever was further compounded by the thought of all the work left to be done tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and, if Americans make it that far, possibly even Friday, for Christ's sake.

Fears that the week could actually be going backwards were also expressed.

"Not only do Americans have most of Tuesday morning to contend with, but all of Tuesday afternoon and then Tuesday night," National Labor Relations Board spokesman David Prynn said. "If our calculations are correct, there is a chance we are in effect closer to last weekend than the one coming up."

Added Prynn: "Fuck."

Believe it or not, it's not even goddamn lunchtime yet for these commuters in Southern California.

Reports that this all has to be some kind of sick joke could not be confirmed as of press time.

Isolated attempts to make the day go faster, such as glancing at watches or clocks every other minute, compulsively checking e-mail, hiding in the office bathroom, fidgeting, or reading a boring magazine while sitting in the waiting room, have also proven unsuccessful, sources report.

The National Institutes of Standards and Technology, which oversees the official time of the United States, is flatly denying that it has slowed or otherwise tampered with Tuesday's progression.

"The current Tuesday is keeping apace with past Tuesdays with no more than one ten-thousandth of a second's variation at the most," NIST spokeswoman Dr. Geraldine Schach said. "However, I sympathize with the common consensus that this week has already been a colossal pain in the neck."

Labor Secretary Elaine Chao released a statement addressing widespread speculation that it might as well be Monday for all anyone cares.

"We understand this day has been tough on many of you, what with meetings mercilessly dragging on and an entire stack of files still left to organize," Chao's statement read in part. "Yet we urge Americans to show patience. The midweek hump is just around the corner, and we have strong reason to believe that Saturday will be here before you know it."

"Go about your lives as best you can," the statement continued. "Do not, we repeat, do not take a sick day, as it'll make the rest of the week that much harder to endure."

In the meantime, citizens are doing their best to cope with the interminable week, though Tuesday is still hours away from ending.

"The more I try to speed it along, the longer it almost seems to take," said Dale Bouchard, a Chicago-based broker who has been waiting for today to be over since it first began earlier this morning. "Honestly, today could not have come at a worse time this week."

In the meantime, the latest wristwatch consultations indicate that it is somehow still Tuesday, if that makes any sense at all.

9.15.2008

scared.

the other day, my friend connor asked me if i like anyone right now.

sadened to admit that this is the one and only question i cannot answer truthfully. and not necessarily because i dont want to (what i told him) but also because, if i wont admit it to myself....why would i admit it to others?

my crushes fall in 3 distinct categories:

*a silly/could never happen/i dont honestly care crush that i talk freely about to anyone that will listen (most of them)
*long term "the one that got away" crushes that are here to stay, but never going to happen either (these arent newly made, just a few from my younger years)
*people im mad crushin' on that could actually happen, if i allowed myself to really believe that (these are very, very rare)

i say this not to sound woe-as-me. but after 24 yrs of crushes (and, oh honey, when you've been alone as much and as long as i, you crush much!) its very hard to think honestly about anything happening. i crush hard, because ive got nothing to loose.

now go listen to another 'paper planes' remix to cheer yourself up.

Pedro Almodovar has wooed Sony Pictures Classics to "Broken Embraces," the helmer’s latest collaboration with "Volver" thesp Penelope Cruz. Almodovar scripted. SPC has taken North American rights. Pic, which also stars Almodovar vets Lluis Homar and Blanca Portillo, is being shot in the style of 1950s American film noir. Almodovar is lensing on location in Madrid and the Canary Islands. The plot involves a four-person love story and "touches on many genres," including thriller, according to the director. Pic will be the 10th Almodovar film from Sony’s specialty arm.

and true, very true.

(just love the good news for now)

Sara Gilbert has been added as a series regular on CBS' ``The Big Bang Theory.'' Gilbert guested on three segs in the Warner Bros. TV comedy's frosh year. She'll continue in the role of egghead Leslie Winkle, a love interest to Johnny Galecki's Leonard, a fellow egghead who's trying to come out of his shell with women. Gilbert and Galecki previously co-starred as sweethearts on the later seasons of ABC's “Roseanne.'

(i am going to post some personal stuff soon)

Focus Features will begin production late this month on "Taking Woodstock," scripted by James Schamus and to be directed by Ang Lee. Lee's ensemble cast includes Emile Hirsch, Imelda Staunton and Liev Schreiber. Pic is an adaptation of the memoir of Elliot Tiber, who played a role in helping the historic 1969 music fest unfold on his neighbor's farm. Less than a month ago, Focus had been thinking about postponing the start of production over concerns that a possible Screen Actors Guild strike could force a shutdown later this year. But numerous studios have begun to move forward on feature starts, and it's understood that Focus has worked out contingency plans in the event of a work stoppage. Demetri Martin ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart") had already been set to play Tiber, an aspiring interior designer in Greenwich Village obliged to run the family business, a Catskills motel. In summer 1969, he found himself at the center of a generation-defining experience when he volunteered the motel to be the home base for Woodstock concert organizers after his neighbor, Max Yasgur, made his farm available for the event.

(dont worry lauren.)

"Hostel" director Eli Roth is on deck to play a baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter in "Inglorious Bastards," the Quentin Tarantino-directed drama that begins production this fall in Europe for the Weinstein Co. and Universal Pictures. Brad Pitt is in talks to play Aldo Raine, leader of a rogue band of Jewish-American soldiers who wreak havoc on the bad guys in Nazi-occupied France. Roth is in talks to play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz. Tarantino is expected to formalize his cast shortly. Tarantino had planned to meet with Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of SS Col. Hans Landa, only to decide that the role should be played by a German actor.

button pusher takes 2.

New indie production and finance shingle Werc Werk Works has stepped in to fully finance and produce writer-director Todd Solondz’s next film, an untitled part-sequel, part-companion piece to his controversial dark comedy "Happiness." Founded by Elizabeth Redleaf and producer Christine Kunewa Walker ("American Splendor," "Factotum"), the company will initially produce three to four films a year. Solondz wrote the screenplay, which revolves around a group of struggling individuals. struggling to find a place for themselves in an unpredictable and volatile world. The narrative is told through a series of intersecting love stories.; the past haunts the present and imperils the future: ghosts circle and loom, trouble and console. The project has been incubating for years, with Emma Thompson, Demi Moore and Paul Reubens rumored to be attached. The film is scheduled to begin principal photography in October in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Casting is currently under way.

he once loved JANE...

Mark Ruffalo will make his feature directing debut on "Sympathy for Delicious." Ruffalo will star with James Franco and Chris Thornton. Production begins this fall in Los Angeles, and the pic is fully financed by new company Corner Store Entertainment. Thornton, who wrote the script, plays "Delicious" Dean O'Dwyer, a paralyzed DJ struggling to survive in his wheelchair on the streets of L.A. He turns to faith-healing and mysteriously acquires the ability to cure the sick -- although not himself. Ruffalo plays a Jesuit priest who tries to help him come to terms with the limits of his gift, and Franco a rock singer in a band that exploits the suddenly famous healer. Pic will be produced by Andrea Sperling, Matthew Weaver, Scott Prissand, Ruffalo and Thornton, with Robert Stein and Joanne Jacobson exec producers.

im not afraid to look forward to:

Hilary Swank and producing partner Molly Smith have acquired feature rights to Emily Giffin’s 2005 debut novel, "Something Borrowed," which they’ll develop through their 2S Films banner as a potential starring vehicle for Swank. Story centers on a Manhattan attorney who becomes involved with her best friend’s fiance following her 30th birthday. Swank and Smith will co-produce "Borrowed" with Aaron Lubin and Pamela Schein Murphy of Wild Ocean Films; the latter pair optioned the book from CAA, but Alcon Entertainment has taken over the option and will develop the project with 2S and Wild Ocean. The deal also includes rights to Giffin’s sequel, "Something Blue." Project’s out to writers. "Something Borrowed" is intended as the initial 2S project to be financed and developed by Warner-based Alcon, which signed 2S to a two-year first-look deal in June.

Warner Bros. dons 'Chanel' biopic

Warner Bros. is coming aboard to finance and produce the Coco Chanel biopic "Coco Avant Chanel," starring Audrey Tautou, with production starting Sept. 15 in Paris. Anne Fontaine will helm the pic, with French shingles Haut et Court and Cine @ producing. Tautou's attachment was announced during last year's Cannes Film Festival. (on my moving home)

"Well, just add it all up to experience. I think we tend to forget how young we are. I don't know if I'll ever go back to NYC other than to visit. I'm not saying I'll stay in Knoxville the rest of my life, but I'm really enjoying being back and having my friends and family close. And feeling like my writing means something, even if not very many people read it."

went to this over the weekend and it totally captures everything i love about atl. sure, this could have gone down in NY but it would have been in brooklyn and so snobby i'd have been nervous just to walk in.

Harry Potter film pulls vanishing act on EW cover

Maybe Harry Potter should have brought a note from his parents saying he would be missing school. Warner Bros. gave Harry the school year off, announcing last week it was bumping the sixth movie in the series from fall to next summer. But Entertainment Weekly — which shares the studio's parent company, Time Warner Inc. — was unaware, featuring "Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe on the cover of its Aug. 22-29 fall-preview issue.

The magazine leads off the issue with a six-page spread pegged to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which Warner Bros. on Thursday moved from its Nov. 21 release date to July 17, 2009. The studio had been considering the date change for three or four weeks, "but it really didn't kind of get on the front burner until sometime within the last seven days," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution, said Sunday.

Entertainment Weekly's "deadline must have been earlier than the decision, than when we started to get serious about making the decision," Fellman said. An Entertainment Weekly spokeswoman did not immediately return phone and e-mail messages seeking comment.

no!!!!

HBO has scrapped plans for a second season of drama "Tell Me You Love Me."

Series creator-exec producer Cynthia Mort said in statement issued Friday afternoon that she and others were "unable to find the direction of the show for the second season," noting "the considerable amount of time" that has passed since its first 10-seg season bowed last September. Show that examined the lives of three couples undergoing counseling raised eyebrows for its steamy sexual content but was not a ratings-grabber for HBO. The pay cabler picked up "Tell Me" for a second season last October after just four airings, but the show from HBO Entertainment and Pariah had yet to resume production.

no surprises here.

TheWB.com will officially launch Aug. 27 with a mix of old broadcast series and Web originals such as Whatever Hollywood, a skein revolving around the antics of three pals called Suri, Apple and Shiloh. The ad-supported site, which has been online in beta form, will stream youth-oriented skeins such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friends and The OC at launch, with more smallscreen skeins and originals rolling out in coming months. The site is targeting the same 16- to 34-year-old aud that tuned into the WB when it was on the air; part of its business model hinges on Warner Bros. Television Group syndicating its offerings across digital platforms such as Dailymotion, Joost, Sling Media, TiVo and Veoh. Two other Web skeins will debut at launch: Blue Water High, revolving around six Australian teenagers at an ultra-competitive surf academy and A Boy Wearing Makeup, a video diary about Mathieu Francis, who dispenses makeup advice and fashion tips. Sorority Forever, a mystery from McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision banner and Big Fantastic, bows on Sept. 8; it stars Jessica Rose of lonelygirl15.

Disney pushes 'Persia' to 2010 - Studio wants to allow time for post-production

Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have pushed back the release of fantasy actioner "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" by nearly a year, from June 19, 2009, to Memorial Day weekend 2010. Officially, Disney said it wants to allow plenty of time for post-production considering that the tentpole will require extensive special effects to create its fantasy world and setpieces. In addition, however, the move takes "Prince of Persia" out of the path of "Transformers 2," which DreamWorks and Paramount open on June 26, 2009. Filmmaker Mike Newell began lensing the pic last week in Morocco and will remain there until the production moves to London. Decision to delay the release by a year caught some by surprise, although the calendar could continue to see major reshufflings because of the ongoing labor strife in Hollywood. Studios may want to allow for extra cushion in case of any production delays. Bruckheimer and Disney don’t want to take any chances with "Prince of Persia," which they are hoping turns into a mega-franchise, along the lines of "Pirates of the Caribbean," that can feed the entire Disney empire, from sequels to potential TV or direct-to-DVD spinoffs, merchandise and Disney theme-park attractions. Pic, based on Ubisoft’s bestselling vidgame, toplines Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina

so long, farewell.

saying goodbye to EW on friday was really hard. i loved my life when i was there and it was a true dream come true. the only way to deal with it is to know that i'll be back one day. so thats how im choosing to think about it.

i now have 2 weeks to prepare for leaving NY for 5-6 months. after today (listing stuff, chilling out, babysitting) im going to make my list of things to do here before i leave. no need to pack until a few days before. it could be really fun (hopefully, otherwise my OCD self will be crawling up walls) my last weekend i'm visiting kate in NJ, which is prob what im most excited about.

im going to miss a lot of things about the city but im so excited about spending some time back home.
